Wednesday night was rocking in the Bruce Hoffman Golden Dome during Veteran Appreciation night as the Sheridan College women's basketball team ran past Western Wyoming 67-52.
The Mustangs got off to a strong start, jumping out to a quick 8-1 lead. The Generals slowly fought back, taking the lead for the first time at the end of the first period, 13-12. The two teams continued to battle back and forth for the rest of the first half until the final minute when Sheridan went on a 6-0 run to take a 26-20 lead into half-time.
After the half, the Generals came out on the attack scoring 31 points in the third quarter and extending their lead to 23. The game slowed down in the fourth quarter and Western Wyoming made a few strong runs but they were never able to cut Sheridan's lead to single digits.
It was a great team effort for the Generals who had scoring contributions from everyone on the roster. Sophomore Ashleigh Frampton (Bundaberg, AU) led the way with 14 points followed by fellow sophomore Brooke Cargal (Gillette, WY) with 11. Aubrey Meiwald, a freshman forward from Hardin, MT, had a strong game as well almost putting up her first double-double with 9 points and 12 rebounds.
With the win Sheridan College moves to 5-4 in conference and 12-13 overall. For their next conference match-up they will travel to Miles City on Saturday, Feb 10, to take on the Pioneers of Miles Community College at 2:00 PM.
