Generals Hit New Heights in 2018: Fall in Region IX Final
DENVER, Colo,-- The Sheridan College men’s soccer team entered its first Region IX Tournament Final last week in Denver. The Generals came off a 4-2 win the previous night against Northwest College, to meet LCCC in the Final: A team they had beaten twice in the regular season.
Sheridan started off early with a few chances and possession, but as the game wore on LCCC started to gain the momentum. Lccc scored in the 28th minute off a mistake in the box. After pushing for the game LCCC sealed the game with another in the 69th minute.
Coach Starr reflects on the game and the season: “I am very proud of each of our guys after this season. Unfortunately tonight we couldn’t do enough offensively to take the win, but we had a lot of positives from this season, and we have a lot to look forward to in the future.”
This season saw the men’s soccer team take new heights to the program. Once again they hosted the Region IX Quarterfinals against Otero JC. This time around however, the Generals made the most of the game and had a dramatic overtime winner from freshman Weston Short. Heading into uncharted territory for the program, the team earned second place in Region IX, another first for the Generals.
“I’d like to thank all of the players, coaches, their families, and our supporters for their hard work and dedication all year. The sophomores have started something very special here at Sheridan, and the returning players have the opportunity to continue their legacy as we strive for this programs best day ever.”
The Generals finish the season with a 7-5-1 record (7-3-1 in Region IX) the most season wins in program history.
